Fatty Liver VA Claim Denied in 2026?
Here’s Why It’s Happening & How to Fight Back
Successfully helped veterans win hundreds of claims

If you just received a denial or proposed severance letter for fatty liver disease (hepatic steatosis / MASLD), you’re probably frustrated and wondering what’s going on. Many veterans are receiving very similar boilerplate letters right now.
Why These Letters Are Going Out
It appears the VA is sending out a wave of these notices — almost like test balloons — to see how veterans respond. In many cases, the language is generic and calls fatty liver “just a laboratory finding,” even when VA doctors previously diagnosed it based on ultrasound, symptoms, and clinical notes.
Don’t Give Up — Many of These Can Be Overturned
While helping veterans with hundreds of claims, I’ve seen this exact situation repeatedly. The key is responding quickly and strongly with evidence showing it was more than just blood work.
What You Should Do Right Now
- Request your full C-File immediately — This is the most important step.
- File a VA Form 21-4138 (Statement in Support of Claim) clearly disagreeing with the proposal and requesting a predetermination hearing.
- Highlight any prior VA ultrasound reports, doctor diagnoses, and treatment plans (weight loss recommendations, follow-up notes, etc.).
- Submit new and relevant evidence to trigger a fresh review or file a Higher-Level Review if there was a clear error.
- Do not ignore the letter — timely response is critical.
I Can Help You Review Your Case
If you received one of these fatty liver denial or severance letters, I offer detailed C-File analysis and practical guidance based on patterns I’ve seen in many similar cases. The goal is to show this was a real diagnosed condition, not just a lab result.
