VA Claims Processing Times 2026:
Faster Than Ever — But Denial Rates Are Also High
Successfully helped veterans win hundreds of claims
Monte Fisher, CPA (Retired), CFE
The VA is processing claims faster in 2026. Many simple claims are now completed in under 3 months, and the backlog has improved. But here’s what the VA doesn’t advertise: denial rates remain very high.
The Full Picture Most Veterans Don’t See
While processing times have dropped, a large percentage of claims are still being denied on the first try. VA OIG reports have shown that nearly 45% of reviewed denied claims contain processing errors. This means many veterans are being turned away — not because their claim is invalid, but because of incomplete reviews or strict interpretations.
My Take – The Insight Others Don’t Give You
While helping veterans with hundreds of claims, I see the same pattern repeatedly: faster processing doesn’t always mean fair processing. The system is moving quicker, but it is also rejecting more aggressively in some areas. This is exactly why having the right strategy and someone who understands how the VA really works matters more than ever.
What You Should Do
- Submit the strongest, most complete claim possible the first time
